What would you tell someone that has never heard of The Future Is Me about your band? What song would you tell them to listen to first?
The Future Is Me sounds like the illegitimate child of At The Drive In, The Receiving End Of Sirens, Thrice, and Thursday. I hate telling someone to listen to a particular song, because I want them to listen to our album! I guess I would say "Heresy In The Age Of Reason."
How do you feel you fit into the current North Carolina music scene?
This is a topic that we constantly talk about and is constantly up for debate. Sometimes we think we don't fit in North Carolina. But other times, we like it because we want to bring this state something different in the state of music. Would we move to somewhere else to play music? Quite possibly. Would we want to stay here and conquer? Quite possibly. Hard to say.
What is The Future Is Me doing that separates you from other bands?
We play music that WE want to hear. I guess its a little selfish, but in such a saturated, recycled scene, we really want to play music that we think sounds good. That's what makes it fun. I also feel like that we have a really great live show. I want people to have the reaction of, "Holy shit, these guys are insane." That's what its all about. If people are going to pay money to see our band play, they will most definitely get their monies worth. I also truly believe that we write lyrics that make people think and are not about that girl that fucked you over. Even if we do write about that kind of stuff, we disguise it into something much cooler.
What are your inspirations in making music?
Music wise, I could go on about this for hours. We're inspired by new music every day, just depends on the day, haha. We're inspired by our lives of still playing music for as long as we have. May not realize it, but alot of us in the band have been playing in bands for 10 years. Lots of our friends are getting married, having kids, and what not. We're inspired to make music because we DON'T want to do that yet.
Where did your band name come from?
For me, it was sort of a cocky thing. We had our old band name and wanted to come up with a more mature, better name. After the demise of our old band, we wanted something that was empowering and that would be a positive look on the future. So when The Future Is Me came up, it was sort of like saying, "Fuck you. The Future Is ME." It also has a Terminator reference to me. Think about it.
What is next for The Future Is Me? We are always playing shows. Check out our dates at www.myspace.com/thefutureismemusic. We are taking all of December to write a new album. We will be doing short tours in the next year, early on. Check out our myspace and facebook. Just come hang out with us at a show. That's an order.
