MONIQUE'S TWO CENTS...
Have no fear Monique is here! Another issue another column, however she’s flying solo this month. This could be interesting…
Senses Fail – “Still Searching”
Not too long ago I started listening to “Still Searching” (the album) again and every song magically got better. No idea why or how this is possible but I’m not complaining. I usually don’t like titled tracks but there’s a first time for everything. Best way to describe this song is “Let it Enfold You” plus 2 years of life. The intro sets the tone and grabs your attention, before you know it your head will be banging, your fist will be pumping and you’ll want to sing/yell right along; unfortunately, you still don’t know the words since it is your first listen…. Just when the song starts to get repetitive and boring the intro comes back in and hypes you up for the finale. If the rest of the CD wasn’t so good I’d probably press repeat as soon as “Still Searching” finishes but before I can get my finger on the button another song starts and it’s just as good.
Line of choice: “I take a pill every day to help me deal with life”
Better than before – “Still Searching”
Other Notable tracks: “Can’t Be Saved”, “Calling All Cars”, “Lost and Found” & “Bonecrusher”
Forever The Sickest Kids – “Believe Me I’m Lying”
I’m not sure if you should experience their live show or listen to the CD first. Both are amazing. I’d say listen to some tracks on Myspace, so when you see them in concert you know the words and can enjoy the show that much more. However all the songs are catchy enough you’ll figure out the chorus by the 2nd go-around. Believe Me I’m Lying has everything I look for in a pop song, and believe you me I’m picky with my punk-pop. Right off the back, this song makes me want to dance. The chorus is easy to sing along to. There are “do-doos” which add to the fun. And once you learn the words, the song gets better; BONUS!! This song makes you smile and hate your ex all at the same time, who could ask for more?
Ps. They are playing at Warped Tour!!
Line of choice: “This is coming from a gentleman with your needs in mind, I've got his on the sideline”
Newest Guilty Pleasure – “Television Off, Party On”
Other Notable tracks: “Breakdown”, “She’s a Lady”
Men, Women, & Children – “Photosynthesis”
This band’s sole purpose is to make you move, period. If you do nothing else but feel the music and react, you’ve done what you’re supposed to do. The lyrics are just the icing to a sick beat. However if you know the lyrics and understand them, you may feel like a dork. The name of the song is Photosynthesis and the first line is “They're losing oxygen. It’s no emergency and now turning green, but that's just biology.” Better yet, if you don’t understand that line and its connection to the title, enroll in a science summer school class, ASAP. Grab a friend, find a dance floor, pop in this track and cut a rug; that is after you Wiki photosynthesis.
Line of choice: “Jenny is a firefly leg, but Jimmy’s just a big old pussy…cat.”
It’s probably new to you – “Men Women & Children”
Other Notable tracks: “Messy”, “Vowels”, “Time for the Future (Bang, Bang)”
MIMS – “Like This”
You may recognize this song from those buy a ringtone commercials on MTV. This is a danceable rap song and its on NOW vol 25 so at least give it a shot. And you know you were secretly singing “This is Why I’m Hot/This is Why I Rock”; I’ve seen the YouTube videos… This is his next single. There’s a breakdown in the song that goes “gimme gimme, gimme gimme gimme”; you gotta hear it; it’s the hotness.
Line of choice: “She whisper in my ear says she loves my song “This is Why I'm Hot”, she got it on her phone. Top Ten Download number one ring tone”
Yes I know this is rap – “Music is My Savior”
Other Notable Rap tracks: T-Pain – “Buy You a Drank”; Huey – “Pop, Lock & Drop It”; Eve – “Tambourine”; Swizz Beats – “Money in the Bank”
