A lot of people don’t know this about me but, I hate Halloween, I hate every single part of Halloween, including that hideous orange they use for everything. There’s two things that redeem Halloween for me: costumes & parties. So instead of a Halloween mix tape I asked Meg to write a Party Mix tape, because how many good Halloween songs can think of?
Party Scene by All Time Low
This is one of our hometown heroes’ older hits, but I know a lot of you love it. It embodies everything parties stand for. They cover every base from lies and drinking till sunrise. We all love these boys and this is probably one of the best party songs ever. “The party scene has got the best of me and you.”
Jesse Buy Nothing Go To Prom Anyway by Hellogoodbye
Jesse Buy Nothing isn’t exactly a party song, but it’s about having a good time. This track doesn’t sound like the typical Hellogoodbye you all know, but it’s one of mine and many people’s favorites. This song has a great mix of screams, catchy techno riffs, and clever yet funny lyrics. I’ve heard it played a few times at Hamilton way back in the past and when it comes on, the only reactions are good reactions. “My moves will be so hot you’ll have to stand under the fan.”
It’s My Party by Lesley Gore
Alright, I know the emo kids in the scene love to cry their pants off, so I figured I’d include this song into the mix. It’s the best of both worlds. Several people have gone to shows, parties, etc. to find the one they want hung up on someone else.“You would cry too if it happened to you.”
Fat Lip by Sum 41
The boys of Sum 41 have grown up since this song, but it always was one of my favorites. I feel that it definitely deserves a spot on the party mix. This song will always be a classic and is great for having a good time. This song epitomizes the misfit days of adolescence and honestly, I don’t think I could live without it. “I crashed my own house party ‘cuz nobody came.”
Plastic Cup Politics by Less Than Jake
Most parties involve drinking. Enough said, right? Wrong. Less Than Jake exemplifies the alcoholic aspect of parties far too well. The personification with a mix of loneliness sets up for a great song and speaks of such a simple topic with such elaborate detail. Many people can relate to “plastic cup politics” and “Mr. Six Pack of Confidence.”
