I've wanted to do this mix tape for quite some time. I love seeing new cities, I love hearing about them. What I think really makes a city great is if someone loves their city or someone else's city enough to write a song about it. Here's just a few, I could go on for days. By: Christine
You Me & Everyone We Know - "Do It Again"
There's not too many songs out there about Baltimore (even though there totally should be). This one comes from our hometown boys. Not only do they mention Baltimore, they also shout out Edgar Allen Poe, who is from Baltimore. That's a fact you'd have to know to get the connection. The songs all about a night on the town, full of alcohol and bad choices, and what better city to do it in?!
We The Kings - "This Is Our Town"
Florida boys’ sappy ballad to the coastal resort small town they grew up in. It's full of heart, and if it wasn't for a few choice lines, this could be about any town anywhere. The line that gets you the most is "And all I ask is that you'll be there when I return." It's hard to be away from your friends and family and sometimes, you just don't want things to change when you finally make it back home.
Hawthorne Heights - "Ohio Is For Lovers"
We all know this song. It's not necessarily about Ohio, but it's about missing someone when you're far away from them, when your heart is somewhere else (Ohio, obviously.)
Fountains of Wayne - "Hackensack"
For the longest time, I could have sworn he meant the game... then I realized Hackensack is a city in Jersey, you have to pass it to get to Bamboozle if you're coming from the South. This song comes from the band that brought you "Stacy's Mom," but this song is serious and quite cute. It's about a girl that moved off to Cali and made it big while the boy is in Jersey and seeing her face everywhere, it's a love note to her saying, "And if you ever get back to Hackensack. I'll be here for you"
Mayday Parade - "Jamie All Over"
This song is a bit of a twist from the typical song about cities & states. This is about leaving home and loving it. Heading out to the sun of the left coast, hitting up San Francisco and Vegas with someone you love. The best line in the song has to be "I'll never go back to Georgia, not at least til I have to."
