SONG MEANING

"Have You Seen This Girl" is about meeting a stranger and falling madly in love with her and then spending forever trying to find her again.

The idea for "HUSTG" as we like to call it, came to me while Dave and I were interning at MTV a few summers ago in NYC It was my last day on the job, so they took me out to lunch and got me kinda wasted-and when we got back to the office, the power went out. Of course we worked on the 54th floor. So after stumbling down 54 flights of stairs in the pitch dark, we get outside and see that there's no power in the whole city. Or the whole North East for that matter.

Anyway. Later that night, Dave and I went walking around the city, and we were totally awestruck. It was like something out of "28 Days Later"-where the city is totally abandoned-except instead of flesh-eating zombies chasing you, there were drunk people having bonfires in the park. Apart from that, there was actually something very romantic about the blackout. At some point, the image came to my mind of a guy walking around these pitch black streets of NYC trying to find the beautiful stranger that he met earlier and asking everyone if they've seen her-and of course there's this total desperation to it because it's hopeless, but it's a romantic desperation. And it's got a timeless quality to it-so like 20 years from now Hotspur is still gonna be looking for that girl. So it's like U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," but sexy.
