Fueled By Ramen records is an independent record label established in Gainesville, Florida in August of 1996. The label was started by John Janick, and drummer/lyricist of Less Than Jake, Vinnie Fiorello. As often questioned the labels name is a reference to the food, Ramen Instant Noodles. The name came from the founder’s taste for the noodles and the accessibility of the food at the start of the label. In 2006 Vinnie Fiorello left the record label because of the bands that were being signed, he felt they were being signed more for style and less for talent.
The label now has eight members instead of the original two. It also now distributes all over the US, Europe, and Japan. The sound of Fueled By Ramen has also changed over the years. Characterized as a “punk” label, the musical direction of FBR has expanded to include pop, hardcore, indie and electronic acts. The label has put out several special releases for charities like New York 9/11 Needist Fund, and Food Not Bombs.
