Blink 182’s “The Rock Show"
New Found Glory “Coming Home”
All Time Low’s “The Girl’s A Straight Up Hustler"
Panic! At The Disco “Lying Is The Most Fun..."
Josie & The Pussycat’s “3 Small Words"
My Chemical Romance’s “Black Parade”
AFI’s “Miss Murder”
Linkin Park’s “One Step Closer"
Punchline’s “Caller 10"
Blindside’s “Pitiful"
Yellowcard’s “Ocean Avenue"
Lost Prophet’s “Last Train Home”
Hellogoodbye “Shimmy Shimmy Quarter Turn”
American Diary “Heart Attack Pact”
Valencia “The Space Between”
I thought of Warped Tour & this song was my first thought. Not just because it says Warped Tour, but because I learned what Warped Tour was because of it, and it’s the twisted ideal of summer love, and hey we are going to a rock show! NFG’s “Coming Home” is just fun, plain & simple “WHOA OOH OH OH!”
This song is on here because the tempo changes so many times, plus if you know the awesome hand motions to this song, it’s the perfect car song aha! Plus who doesn’t love a song that spawned countless “____ is a straight up hustler”, myspace names?
“LET’S GET THESE TEENS HEARTS BEATING FASTER!” Nothing like a line like that to wake you up when you’re driving on the highway at 8AM! “I’m a punk rock pop queen!” Beat a line like that. Don’t be ashamed to rock out to Josie & The Pussycats, seriously. Currently, this song is my myspace song, be jealous.
This is interchangeable… “Black Parade” or “Famous Last Words” can work great on this, because it gets you up and even if you don’t want to admit it, you know the words, and it’s a lot of fun to scream while it’s up way too loud. Oh & I like Gerard’s voice a lot, sue me. Replace Gerard with Davey, and you’ve got the explanation to “Miss Murder.”
This is the “Dammit, I’m stuck in traffic song.” You know you did or still do like Linkin Park, don’t pretend you don’t remember your jerbang days, and screaming “Shut Up When I’m Talking To You,” just feels good.
“Caller 10” has such an awesome chorus, “Look left, look right, look up & down, turn around.” It’s like the scene hokey pokey! Plus if you listen to the words the song is really actually saying something, it’s a good message to follow while you’re at Warped.
Okay, if you’ve ever seen the movie “Grind” there’s a band that plays at one of the skate competitions. This band is a Swedish Christian hardcore band called Blindside. Yes, you know you want to listen.
Completely different route, we have “Ocean Avenue,” the soundtrack to the Summer of 04 for me, it’s just that song that is your summer. Perfect for the show that epitomizes summer. Lost Prophets came out around the same time, this song taught me to headbang (stfu).
Hellogoodbye is always fun, no matter what. Shimmy Shimmy Quarter is another song that has dance instructions, plus it’s the first song I heard by them, and it even has the AIM sound! Oh and just to note I’m talking about the version that on the full length self titled CD, it’s my favorite version ha. Another local, American Diary’s “Heart Attack Pact” from Wear It Til You Love It is intense, and gets you pumped for the day, and if you don’t have that CD, buy it. This mix tape could be that CD alone. I’ll be honest… This is the only Valencia song I know, but I know every word, and listen to it way too much. Plus I have sweet hand dance moves to this too, and even if you don’t know the words there’s several sing along opportunities and places to clap!
ON THE WAY HOME
Cobra Starship’s “Hey Mr. DJ”
The Hint’s “Two Ocean”
David Melillo “Knights of the Island Counter”
Boys Like Girls “The Great Escape”
Sherwood “Never Ready To Leave”
Straylight Run “Existentialism on Prom Night”
Jack’s Mannequin “The Mixed Tape”
Modest Mouse “Float On”
October Fall “It Was Summer…”
Elton John “Tiny Dancer”
Unwritten Law “Seein’ Red”
Dashboard Confessional “Hey Girl”
The All American Rejects “Happy Ending”
The Academy Is… “Almost Here”
Cobra Starship “Hey Mr. DJ” is chill in a fun way. Like I’m resting after awesome dance session.
I opted for “Two Oceans” instead of “Where Are You Now?” or “Antidote” because this song is sooo cool to do randomly dance to down the highway, and to do a wicked air guitar solo, obviously!
Knights of the Island Counter is a song that should probably be on every mix tape because it’s about what a blur summer can become and how it doesn’t matter when you’re friends. “These nights are notable an priceless,” exactly how you should feel on your way home from Warped Tour.
Boys Like Girls’ “The Great Escape” will never ever get old to me. It’s on the “On The Way Home” CD because it’s got energy but the I could stay up all night kind, it braces you for whatever awesome party you got invited to “tonight will change our lives… we’ll feel so alive!”
Sherwood’s “Never Ready To Leave” explains in the title. When you’re leaving Warped, you really aren’t ready to, no matter how late you hang around.
Straylight Run’s “Existentialism on Prom Night” is on here because a.) I forgot to make a mix for prom night, and b.) it’s epic. It’s such a slow song, that let’s you think, plus the perfect chorus that throws away all the bad thoughts “SING LIKE YOU THINK NO ONES LISTENING,” I hope you do that at Warped. There’s no reason not to.
My god, when I picked up Jack’s Mannequin’s debut album “Everything In Transit” I didn’t put it down for 6 months, and it started because of this song. There’s something calming about this song, even though it’s one of the most upbeat songs on the album. It’s about the power of a mix tape, and has that nostalgic quality to it.
So even if the day sucked… you’ve got “Float On” by Modest Mouse, it will be okay, Modest Mouse said so.
This band is one of the bands on Fueled By Ramen that hasn’t taken over the world yet. They’re October Fall, and this mellow song is exactly what summer is. If you could capture the sun setting on a good day during the summer, this is the song. It also has that nostalgic sound, like you’ll feel the second you leave Warped Tour.
If you’ve never seen the movie Almost Famous, go see it. Right now. Then you’ll understand exactly why “Tiny Dancer” is on here. Yet another song from Grind, that movies soundtrack is so good, go buy it! “Seein’ Red” has such a good vibe, it’s motivating, yet a little sad.
I chose “Hey Girl” by Dashboard Confessional simply for the line “So what if your friends say I’m crazy. I wasn’t trying to impress those girls anyway. They’re all theory, no action, and where I’m from we live like it’s the latest attraction.”
All American Reject’s “Happy Ending” makes me feel good. It has perfect sing along opportunities, plus you can freak out when you get to the chorus! Of all the TAI songs I love, I chose “Almost Here” because it’s the last song on the their CD & this one. It’s letting you know there’s more after this. Good things are “almost here”
